John V. Simone, Hq & Hq Co. CCB, 4th Armored Div. Erlangen Germany, 1960-1962. Spent lots of time in Graf. I would say 9 months out of the years , some really good time and some really bad. But the guys in my nit were A+ . Would like to hear from Tim Piechowski, we went to Italy on the Italian Riviera with a German Girl and a Romanian Girl, travelled by train all over Italy. I am 83 years old now and I am wondering how many guys in my COMPANY ARE STILL on this earth. I think back of how wonderful Bavaria was and the things I brought back from there that I still have. I have many photos that I will try to send if possible. Take acre guys stay well and safe.
I was stationed with the 82nd Combat Engineering Battalion at Warner Barracks in 1967-1968. Came down on levy for Vietnam three times as ny brother was there untill March of 68. The last go a round I was told Iwas to short in time.
I loved the food in Germany, and I enjoyed the beer as well. We spent a month on the Rhine river practicing to build a float brigde at Lieheim. We also went to Danube City and built a float bridge there as well. Grafenwohr was a place to build things Due to lack of training funds we built a road for the Germans through a forested area at Graf. I didn’t care much for Hoenfelds so much the buildings were either cold or hot during the seasons.
Remember my first day as Supply Sergeant the tanks went off and I jumped under the bunk. Scared the hell out of me. Shortly after went to Vilseck and then on to Bad Tolez with the Seventh Army Non Commissioned Officers Academy first female instructor . Did not miss Graf at all.
I too have memories of Graf. Was stationed at Bamberg and had maneuvers at graf and Hoenfelds. My mos was radioteletype/crypto,and winter 64/65 was asked to drive a Captain/adviser of war games.The vehicles were open tops and the winter was one for the records.
